Lecture 14
The Roadie

Friday night’s gig reminded me once again why I would like to be a successful rock star. Not for me the trappings of fame and fortune. Not the glory of being idolised by the masses. Not even the recognition of my industry peers, although that would be very nice...

Lecture 13

A Bass Player by any other name The big day arrived and the re-mixed version of the old Amaziah (my first serious band) track, ‘Slowly’ landed on my doormat in the form of a vinyl 10” single and as a compilation track on a CD. All nicely remixed and full of life.........

Lecture 12
The Gramophone

A very Happy New year to you all, I trust that it will be a blinder for you what ever happens.........

Lecture 11
The Christmas Gig

It was the week before Christmas and we were really looking forward to coming home to the pub where we had started as a band.......

Lecture 10
Oops!!

Well, the evening of ‘the big gig’ arrived and we were well up for an evening of rock & roll excitement. It was going to run smoother than an Italian waiters chat up lines. You know it wasn’t going to happen don’t you.....

Lecture 9
The last tempation of the mudheads

We really are getting into the groove with this concert lark!
We arrived at the ‘Fight Club’ (not the clubs real name you understand, but one affectionately given because of its ‘physical reputation), fully prepped and bang on time.

Lecture 8
Even a Rock God must occasionally audition Something that I have never understood is people’s earnest desire to go on TV shows like the X-Factor and by way of an audition make complete and utter pratts of themselves in front of cynical and critical panellists........

Lecture 7
To Be or Not to Be To be, or not to be?  Whether it be nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortunes…….or just knock it on the head and go and learn to play golf instead. .....

Lecture 6
Even a Rock God Has to Rehearse I have mentioned this before, but it would appear that too many years of TV programmes like ‘Fame’ and ‘High School Musical’ give the average person the unfaltering belief........

Lecture 5
A band must have a van

I had one of those rare opportunities of catching up with an old ‘band mate’......

Lecture 4
The Mountain Bike Festival
(The Best Worst gig)
You may need to make yourself a cup of coffee, or grab a cold one before you start to read this; it’s bound to be a long one.....

Lecture 3
Is your band being shafted by live music Venues? I have noticed a disturbing new trend that has not reared its ugly head before until recently, at least not for me.......

Lecture 2
So You want to be a Rockstar?

Life for a jobbing musician can be hard enough as it is without adding something as crippling as a credit crunch to the mix......

Lecture 1
The Axe Factor Sometimes you have to ask yourself the question “Why do we do these things to ourselves”.........
