Crimson Sky Review - By Steve from Bristol Rocks

AT LAST a hint of keyboards.
As much as I love guitar
(I've played one most of my life) it's a refreshing change to hear keys.
This is a very well presented package. The recording is very good although I would prefer the drums to sound bigger and be brought forward in the mix a touch.
Another general point I would make is that Nancy has a great voice but on this recording I feel her voice would benefit from less reverb and a touch more chorus or double tracking to give it more depth.

Only Love (The title track) is quite progressive but still maintains musical discipline. It is well constructed and you never get the impression that it's trying too hard to be different.

I Do Not Count the Time (Track 2) I like the mood of this track.
I have always been a fan of 'Light and Shade' in songs. All too often these days, music is compressed too much and ends up squeezed into a narrow band with no dynamics to give it interest.

Somewhere (Track 3) This is probably my favourite track.
It has a real 'PRETENDERS' feel about it with the 'Jangly' chorused guitar intro which can only be a good thing in my view. Again a fatter drum sound would make this a perfect track for me.

Misunderstood II (track 4) Makes more use of synths giving it an entirely different spatial effect. There is some really good bass playing in the middle of the track but tends to go on for too long so you start to lose interest. Nevertheless there's a good twist at the end closing the CD in the way it opened, with some nice guitar.

I really like this band and their song writing is excellent. I'm looking forward to catching a live set from them soon. Maybe we can catch them on one of our 'BOOTLEG' assignments.

This CD is available from their web site so buy one you will like it!
