This was an open mic event at The Bunch of Grapes and I was looking forward
to an evening
of undiscovered (as yet) artists and hopefully some original
material. I was not disappointed.
Djute or rather (Julie Baker who fronts
Djute) took to the stage (well the floor) and hit us with
all her own songs.
My
initial reaction was OK it's her own work but it didn't set me on fire. Then
came 'Kissing The DJ'.
Suddenly every ones attention was alerted. What a
song. It had a great hook in the chorus and having now heard it a few times
really sticks in your brain. Listen to the MP3 above and you'll see what I
mean.
I guess if you had to compare Julie with anyone I would say she is
Bristol's answer to Alanis Morissette.
I have listened to a demo CD of the
whole band performing these songs and it certainly adds more life to them
but 'Kissing The DJ' is good acoustically or with the band treatment.
Julie is worth making the effort to see or listen to.
Great Stuff!
More 'Kissing The DJ' songs please. |
