What is rap? Poetry? Music? Rhythm?
I know for a fact that the sum of these components can add up to a
pile of crap.
If however these components are sprinkled and mixed in a magical way
you end up with supreme art and this is the result of Gecko's
remarkable achievement with 'Terrible Lizard'.
The nearest thing to the sound that Gecko has achieved is the
Streets music, although Gecko has added a touch more melody and some
references to his home town Bristol. |

Gecko also has some of the arrogance and angst of eminem and this
comes through in the brilliant track 'seems all the time' which is
my favourite track on the CD. This is rap perfection with a highly
melodic backdrop over which a clever poetic lyric has been poured.
"I represent Bristol don't represent anyone carrying a pistol" is a
quote from track 6 'The Library' and this is a major difference
between Gecko's music and some of the awful American rap that relies
on having to shock and repulse the listener. In Gecko's case, talent
removes the need for this tactic. |
| |
| 'Livin' it up for the sound' has some
excellent lyrical imagery of Bristol zoo's reptile house where they
have got Gecko's by the million singing, dancing, swaying and
prancing to Bristol's drum and bass beat. Ha....beat that Marshall
Mathers! |

|
Terrible Lizzard is a work of genius, this therefore must make Gecko
a genius? Buy yourself a copy of this album and you will thank me
for the recommendation. |
