Wow. It just doesn’t get better than this.
If you want fresh and interesting lyrics that
you will wake up thinking about and then find your self quoting at
parties or intensive discussions with impressionable friends, then
this is the sound to listen to. No, don’t just listen. Get Geko
tattooed on your head and ask the tattooist to make sure that this
band is tattooed into your brain as well because this release is all
the music that you will ever need.
These songs are very original. To begin with,
some of these tracks have a South African feel to them, but then
quickly move on to a comfortable, melodic sound that’s dominated by
interesting lyrics and a bright guitar and drum sound. They all
feel as if they have been recorded in one take and on one track.
It’s just brilliant.
It’s often difficult to describe a recording of
voice, instruments and rhythm. This CD just made me feel happy and
a bit cheeky. These songs aren’t Rap; they aren’t ‘The Streets’ or
‘Squeeze’. What are they? Well, each track just feels like a very
personal story put to simple but effective music. But the songs
have an ironic humour to them.
This music is fresh and interesting. It
captures situations that we have all found ourselves in. When I was
listening to ‘I Got time’, well, I just felt that I was in the same
room as the band. But it’s not all about the lyrics. Listen to the
drums and subtle guitar work on ‘Falling down’, Wow.
My only complaint is that the boss at Bristol
Rock has given me a disc with just four tracks on it. After
listening to this sampler, I now find that I have an addiction that
will only be satisfied by a two CD 32 track release of Gecko magic.
Buy this or any other Gecko CD. I promise you
that you will enjoy listening to these wonderfully crafted songs.
The CD is exceptional and has been a joy to listen to and review.
Thank you Gecko, you made Bristol Rocks roll to a whole new level.
