Psycho Delia Smith At The
Cat & Wheel
Saturday 26nd Feb 08
Review by Darren Green (The Drummer)
|
The 2008 gigs have started the same way as
2007's ended; great venues, enthusiastic crowds and some very
enjoyable evenings for audience and band alike. The only
difference being half a dozen new covers in the repertoire (well
we had to do something during those long winter evenings).

First up was the Brunel in Bedminster with the
best stage in the area and a crowd that's always up for a good
time. Special mention goes to our new best friend in the striped
jumper who, having bagged the table right in front of the stage,
proceeded to lead the pogo dancing, sing-along to all the
post-punk covers and attempt to dry-hump one of the pub's
mahogany-clad pillars. All during the first set. He wasn't there
for the second set but the pillar still was so we can only
assume that he left during the interval, tired, emotional and
rejected.

Next up was the Cat and Wheel on Cheltenham Road, one of
our favourite venues. "It's the friendliest pub I've ever been to" said
the manager of The George in Chipping Sodbury who was seeing the pub,
and the band, for the first time. It was the day after Valentine's Day
so love was in the air all evening. We did our own take on love songs;
Ever fallen in love with someone (you shouldn't have), Turning Japanese
and Fat-bottomed Girls. Despite the pub being packed the dancing started
during the second song and continued thereafter, and the diminutive
mature woman in the camel coat was pure genius during Paint it Black. We
loved her. Many of the blokes in the audience seemed to fall in love
with the attractive blonde in the white top, and undertook much
post-Valentine's chatting up without realising a) she was with one of
the band and b) she's married. One ardent admirer, a gardener, even
slipped a business card into her handbag. So if we ever need any bushes
trimming we'll know where to go.
We've another break now during which we'll learn some more songs,
including our eponymously-titled next single. The next two gigs are both
Sunday nights - the Old Tavern and Royal Oak - so please round-off your
weekends by coming along and having a very enjoyable and entertaining
time. |
