Unplugged and not Dangerous

Two blokes with a guitar each playing their Unplugged (mostly) rendition of popular musical classics. The set list ranges from Pink Floyd to Robbie Williams. From Deep Purple to Tenacious D. The track Comfortably numb was recorded live with drums added later, listen to it all the way through to the second solo, Awesome!

Unplugged & not Dangerous Reviews
Unplugged and Not Dangerous - Jolly Sailor Saltford Oct 2006 -
Review by Steve from BR

When you see these two in action there are two things that just don’t cross your mind.
The first is the fact that they are Father and Son and the second, there IS only two of them.

I think the energy that they have in their performance tends to make you believe they are just good mates or even brothers and the material they choose to do is classic rock treated to an acoustic makeover.
With this in mind I think because you know the songs so well, your brain fills in the missing elements so you hear a full sound.

Anyway, enough waffling from me, lets get down to the performance.

Great couple of sets with (as already mentioned) some classic “blasts from the past”. Like ‘Born to be Wild’, ‘Smoke on the water’, ‘Tribute (by Tenacious D)’, ‘Show me the way (Pete Frampton)’ and so on.
They are both very accomplished musicians and as a guitarist myself I was impressed by the solid rhythm from Kevin and the slick solos from Yan both on acoustic and electric guitars.

The whole gig was well received by a very appreciative audience.

The two members of this duo, Kevin and Yan are both heavily committed to other bands so as ‘Unplugged and Not Dangerous’ they don’t have a demanding schedule of gigs lined up, but keep watching the BRISTOL ROCKS daily gig guide for their next gig and get yourselves along to see it you will be glad you did!

Kellaway Arms 22/11/2005 Review by Fred Hale
It was my first visit to the Kellaway Arms 'open mike night' and it was brilliant fun.  I had gone down to see 'Unplugged and not Dangerous' who are the subject of this review....but all the acts gave it their best shots and most were very talented (not all!).
U&nD (Kevin and Yan) took to the stage area mid way through the evenings acts, kicking off with an energetic version of Robbie Williams' 'Me and my Monkey'.  Kevin's Singing was nice and powerful and both guitars were spot on with some nice lead melody by Yan......next up was....you wouldn't believe...Deep Purple time!  Yes the all time classic 'Smoke on the Water' as you've never heard it before, on two acoustic guitars and now't else!  It was an even more energetic performance, again delivered with real enthusiasm and an obvious talent from the dynamic duo.  Surprisingly it worked very well, with some great guitar lead from Yan.....however the best was yet to come. Kevin asked the, by now attentive, crowd whether they fancied some Pink Floyd and he was met with a chorus of 'YES!'.  We were then treated to a cracking rendition of 'Comfortably Numb', the vocals were spot on, but the surprise was the amazing guitar solos....Yan did things on his Acoustic that most guitarists I have seen wouldn't be able to pull out of an electric guitar!  Amazing.  The crowd asked for more, but alas there were still two more acts to go so we were denied an encore. Great band, great venue.  I recommend both.

Bunch of Grapes 23/10/2005 Review by Elaine & Jane

What a great way to spend an hour on a Sunday night listening to two blokes who know how two guitars should be played.

Feeling dubious about going to the Bunch of Grapes after hearing that it could a little rough; I was pleasantly surprised, the décor included posters of past shows at the Hippodrome.

Some of the audience were obviously enjoying the gig if you compared the amount of head banging and audience participation.

The music was mostly renditions of popular classics Deep purple and Jam to name but a few.

For those of you who didn't go you missed a great gig by Unplugged and Not Dangerous - Keep up the good work chaps!

Bunch of Grapes 23/10/2005 Review by Steve & Lynne Brown
We have known Kevin & Son  for some years, so the opportunity  to see them perform together was not to be missed. We were not disappointed, in fact quite the opposite. Their 40 minute set, as the resume above suggests, was varied and quite a challenge in applying an acoustic treatment to their choice of songs.
The good news is, IT WORKS!

The music they played was well rehearsed and performed. Yan's guitar playing was excellent and his backing vocals were quite good but he needs to help Kev out a bit more.
Kevin's vocals on the other hand were very good for someone who doesn't consider himself to be a lead singer. The overall mix of Dad and Son was really good to listen to.

I know Kev has a lot more ideas for this DUO project and if what they have done so far is anything to go by the new stuff will be well worth waiting for.

See you at the next Gig!
