JAMES
MORTON BAND
Jazz, funk,
blues … James is joined by Dan Moore on keys, Spencer
Brown on double bass, and the fantastic Simon Gore on
drums. Extract from a review by The Guardian:
“Pizza on the
Park/London …
joined by a group of Bristol musicians including young alto-sax
firebrand James Morton and powerful drummer Simon Gore, Andy
Sheppard's slow-burn solos married tonal subtlety and controlled
fire, and Morton acted as a powerful bridge between contemporary
jazz and hard-bop history. Behind Morton's sermonising
improvisation, Sheppard generated backing face-to-face with
Gore, whose crisp intensity grew as the night went on. A
Spanish-sounding episode turned into a hip-hoppish account of
Round Midnight, and Milestones returned at the finale, Morton
opening his solo with a nod to the Cannonball Adderley version.
It was an effervescent mix of old and new without a hint of a
compromise.”

In a special show being recorded for TV/film to promote their
new EP "No Time For Goodbye" tonight's headliners are We Ghosts
from Sweden. This date also closes a mini-tour of the UK.
Support comes from their friend and ours James Gale with his
beautiful and mournfully lyrical songs, a sharp ear for the
twist of fated words and keen eye for a melody. Opening the
night with a short set will be SongSmith host QJB.

JAMES FORSTER
and friends
Guitarist James
Forster – wow! this guy can play! - is bringing together
some of Bristol's finest musicians for an evening of blues and
soul funk grooves. With Scott Hammond on drums
"… a drummer I rate very highly … he swings with such precise
force that nothing else matters …I could listen to him all
night"
– (Charley Dunlap-Music
Journalist), plus some of James'
favorite collaborators from his various projects, including The
Forster King Band, you can expect plenty of scorching Hammond
organ and guitar playing. Amazingly talented, James and all of
his friends are quite deservedly in huge demand! |

SWEET LAREDO
Dan Coggins
- guitarist, writer and producer, and Bristolian vocalist
Sarah Scott - owner of the freshest, most original, soulful
set of blues larynx to emerge from the UK in a good while. Sweet
Laredo have developed their unique style from a shared love of
jazz, hip-hop and old school soul, blues and gospel, and are
inspired by the "stuff that sends a shiver down your spine
and starts a stirring in your loins". Sweet Laredo’s vibe
has always been to fuse different styles and collaborate with as
many quality musicians as they can lay their hands on. Their
most recent projects include an album collaboration and live
European tour with Grand Central Record’s, Jon Kennedy. The
band's "beautifully crafted" eponymous debut album (2003)
received with great acclaim gaining a host of positive reviews,
and their second album ‘Views from the Manse’ is available now
on general release in Europe and Canada. "Sarah Scott has a
voice strong enough to knock a hurricane off course yet full of
controlled, understated emotion… This was a performance of sass,
wit and verve" Venue - gig review. "Sarah effortlessly
filled the (Manchester) Academy with what we firmly believe to
be a gold-plated larynx" Grand Central 9th
Birthday party review. "These purveyors of chocolatey jazz
and loungecore had the once soporific audience swaying".
Venue – Ashton Court Review.

KINSMEN
Richie Blake,
bass; Andy Kinsman, sax; Steve Williams, keys &
vocals; Andy Roger, drums. Past members of the widely
acclaimed John Fenlon Band come together to play an altogether
different kind of set. You can think blues, but these seasoned
players aren’t afraid of throwing in jazz, soul, and even some
pop! Fine musicianship and great vocals form the basis of a
great night’s entertainment. All these guys are in great demand;
understandably so - individually they’re brilliant, together
they’re awesome! |

STEVE PAYNE CD RELEASE
PARTY !!
We’re absolutely thrilled that
Steve Payne – legendary roots,
country and blues guitarist, variously described as
“one of
the UK’s finest guitarists”
and "one of rock’s fallen angels”, has chosen to
release his new CD “NO COMMERCIAL VALUE”
here at The CoriTap!
Steve has played with everyone
who’s anyone, and spends most of his time touring major venues
and festivals throughout Europe, Canada, and the USA - so it’s
fantastic that he’s made time to be here to perform some of the
compositions he has put together to create his first CD since
2002. “No Commercial Value” includes songs such as “Pedestrian
Jesus”, “Detroit” and “Little Miss-understood” – and you’ll hear
Steve on vocals, electric/acoustic/slide guitars, along with
Chris Logan on drums; Patrick Rowsell, bass; Stuart Gordon,
violin; Toby French, drums and percussion; Guy Rigby, excellent
accordion on “Not Afraid Anymore” and “Funny Tasting Chicken”;
Eddy Capper, trumpet; Mike Jones, sax; Les Sheppard, trombone;
and Hannah Fleming, bac |
