| First up were blues boys The Swampmen Blues
Experience. An acoustic guitar, a
double bass & a toy drum (couldn't fit the drummer in the photo) add
a
master blues vocalist & frontman and you end up with a lively
foot tappin' acoustic blues band. The Swampmen Blues Experience held the audience attention
with an upbeat set of traditional blues. |

| Blues slide guitar maestro Andrew Bazeley was on next with more
traditional blues songs. I noticed that at the beginning of Andy's
set, the audience had lost attention of what was going on on the
stage and were chatting amongst themselves. Not for long! Andy's
mastery of his instrument and the slide style that he has mastered soon had
them watching in awe.

The first two bands played trad blues and Anthony Craig came on stage
next to play a set of standard blues tunes. With hoochie coochie man
& the spider and the fly, their lively set was appreciated by the
crowd. Most of the songs were lively, but in the middle they
apologised for playing a song that I didn't recognise. Don't
apologise for that one boys, drop it.
Apart from that one donkey of a song, the set was excellent and the
boys
playing three acoustic guitars proved to be top blues strummers.I
never got to see the fourth band Jim Tigwell & Martin Froud because I had to head off into
the night to review at another venue.

Alfie's acoustic sessions at the Old Tavern are very good. You get
three or four quality bands or artists, a top sound with light show.
It's quiet enough that you can chat if you want to and on top of
that the pub serves good food & local real ale. Get along and see
for yourself, what else is there to do on a dull Wednesday? |
