Music Box Recording Studio is a
professional recording studio based in the heart of the somerset contryside,
providing high quality production at affordable prices for bands all over
the South West. In fact bookings are even being taken from bands as far
afield as Edinburgh! It is just 10 minutes drive from the A303, and also
Junction 25 of the M5 Motorway.

Run by Andy, Music Box offers a
relaxed, friendly atmosphere, with much experience in both recording and
production, as well as being a musician playing in many Bristol and
National/ International touring bands. Andy is passionate about Audio,
always putting in 110%. He is frequently found staying late and using up his
own spare time to get the clients the best sound possible! |

There is a large live room, easily big enough to take
whole bands in one go for both live recording, rehearsal, and pre-production
work, a massive control room with comfy sofa-seating for 7 people, a vocal
booth, and a kitchen and toilet. The view straight out of the front door is
of fields and countryside, much more relaxing than having grey buildings,
traffic and noise!
Whilst being in the countryside, there are nearby shops, pubs (one within a
couple minutes walk), and 5-10 minutes drive will get you towns,
supermarkets and petrol stations.
Based around a 64-input Soundcraft Analogue mixing desk, Musix Box records
at 24bit/96KHz to a high-spec PC running Cubase 4, or if the band/artist
prefers, to any mix of Cubase 4, an Alesis 24-track Hard Disk Recorder, an
Alesis 8-track Adat Recorder, and even a 16-track Analogue Reel-to-Reel
Recorder! This means re-mixing of old work that was recorded on older
formats is also possible.
The computer has a massive selection of plug-ins, and there is also a wide
range of outboard gear for both tracking and mixing. Also on hand are a huge
array of 'virtual instruments', allowing us to program more or less any
instrument (even drums) with great realism.
Microphone wise, there is a plethora of professional mics at hand. Just some
of the selection: 1978 Neumann U87, 1969 Film Industries Ribbon, Audio
Technica 4033, and many others from Rode, Shure, AKG and Sennheiser.
There are headphone amps in both the control room and the live room, easily
allowing large bands to have a pair of headphones for each member and
customised monitor mixes for each. We can cater for all styles, both of
music and of artist! We have the ability to have moody, dimly lit ambiences
and well as more bright, well lit styles - Vocalists can even choose
from singing in the confines of the booth to singing at their band mates in
the live and control rooms!
There is also a huge selection of instruments, including a Yamaha Electronic
Piano, a fully weighted (with pedals) midi controller, various Synths (Juno,
SNO9 etc), various other keyboards and midi controllers, two different drums
kits (Yamaha and Pearl), various percussion, a full Marshall valve
half-stack, a marshall valve combo, various Marshall cabs with both modern
and vintage speakers, a Fender Blues DeVille, Ashdown ABM bass heads and
cabs, Ashdown MAG combos, and various guitars and basses too.
Music Box retains it's 'no job too big or small' attitude, doing work for
both record labels right through to bands recording their first ever demo.
For more information, please feel free to email, ring, or check out the
website, which also has some soundbites of recent work.
