Stage

So.....You thought Bristol Rocks was all about music?

Wrong! Bristol Rocks is about entertainment and here is our section on stage shows.

If you want to send us a review of a show that you have seen anywhere in the UK then please send it to stagereviews@bristolrock.co.uk

Dr Doolittle at the Bristol Hippodrome
Wednesday night I was off to see "Doctor Dolittle". It was a show I was looking forward to seeing as I was bought up on Tommy Steele films (among others).....

Paul Loaders Musicals
I have to confess that I first fell in love with treading the boards when I was 16 years old and I got to play one of the leads in the Hartcliffe School production of Westside Story. Sure I should have been studying for my O-levels at the time and subsequently failed the lot, but music and I began a love affair that remains true and loyal even today.....

Godspell
"Godspell" is one of three "god squad" musicals that first saw the light in the 1970s! The other two were "Joseph" and "Superstar".  The music and lyrics written by Stephen Schwartz (www. MusicalSchwartz.com), produced a huge hit at the time with the song "Day By Day".

Mama Mia at the Bristol Hippodrome
Mamma Mia! has made it 'home' to Bristol at long last. Catherine Johnson - who wrote the story of Mamma Mia! and freely admits basing one or two of the characters on personal friends of hers - lives in Bristol and has written a number of successful plays before making it BIG worldwide with a musical featuring ABBA songs written by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus. And of course ABBA is also a favourite subject of mine too being a fan of the band since 1974 when they won the Eurovision Song Contest with "Waterloo".........
