"I think one of the first gigs we
ever done ..... We played a few gigs in Bristol and then we had
the guy who used to provide our PA for us. He said to us 'oh
there is a chance of doing a show in Southampton, some student
freshers night type thing. So we trundle off down there
and did this show. Absolutely nobody at all was interested and
there was a disco next door. We were playing live and it was
just a couple of our friends watching us and everybody else was
in this disco" Rich says laughing. "So we thought this was one
of the worst things ever and said to ourselves we are never ever
going to do this again. I think it was the whole student
thing. They were there trying to get pissed and they
really weren't interested in any music so that was pretty bad".
"There are loads of things that
happen that you think at the time is terrible but things do go
wrong on stage. Something will fall over and stuff like that but
they become memorable things and it's part of your
apprenticeship. I think a lot of bands don't experience bad gigs
because they are plucked from .... I don't know Pop Idol or
X-Factor and next thing they are playing Wembley. Doing this
from the bottom and working your way up is what it's all about
and experiencing bad gigs".
